So in today’s animation class we started of with the basic contour and gesture drawing, post sketching sir discussed with us of what was our definition of a story, we came up with many terms and concepts such as

  • It’s a passage of time which is recorded
  • An experience
  • Something which has a start middle and end, but can be in any order
  • Timeline recorded in some format
  • Segment of our imagination
Sir then introduced us to the only thing constant in the film, before that we pondered on what it could be, and it was simply change, ironic right:)
We saw a few examples in films like Luxo Jr  and how the characters mood characteristics change and that gets a change to the whole film, Sir then asked to tell a story which I had read or heard when I was a kid, and the first story that came to my mind was the story about a child and his mom going out to run some errands and he finally finding the jar full of chocolate, he instantly puts his hand and tries to get a handful out, but gets stuck as the mouth of the jar is pretty small. Later when his mother arrives she asks him to take only one candy out and try, the hand easily slides out of the jar. The moral of the story being , there’s enough on earth for man’s needs but not his greeds.we then  saw a film , “Old man and the Sea” Sir told us that it was water colour on glass and it took nearly 6years to complete it! It was indeed a beautiful film
Post discussion we started giving our ball a little character and tried to build a story around the character, it was fun as I worked on a different axis just to make it bounce on the completely opposite direction that was towards the camera, I gave some dramatic bounces to it and how just as it is near the camera it disappears for a mili second but then just bams into the screen all magnified!
Stay tuned to get more updates on the bouncing ball assignments and playblasts
