VS 7AUG W2

So today in visual story class we watched a lot of short films and discussed and analysed all the aspects possible in the film, the works that was presented were so inspiring, the best part was that it was students who had made those films. We started off with how animation emerged from traditional paintings to modern AR/ VR. We studied about the temple of Isis and how it set an early example that later evolved into animation.
Ways to connect with the audience,

  • Should always try to keep it real and engaging,
  • Keep it simple,
  • Don’t make a fuss,
  • Use elements of surprise, mystery,thrill,
  • Adrenaline is your best friend,
  • Keep them guessing.
For the next class we are told to make a flip book on the topic “bring it to life”
We saw four short films and the concept and master plot in them were sooooo good, like everytime we saw one, me and my friends used to stare back at each other in complete awe, what and how does such concept come from a simple phrase?! For example the first film that we saw was Ben and Jerry, where the plot phrase was ‘coming out of the closet’ and the way that they showed the whole story I was completely spellbound. Alike was another film where there was a prominent showcase of contrasting colours which spoke the most about the film. Lavatory lovestory and counting sheeps were the other films that we watched today. We have done so much today and processing it all was so much easier as Sir kept discussing every detail with us, it was actually a lot of fun and I look forward to visual story classes eagerly:) Following below are few of my assignments and notes from today’s class.

DRAWING FOUNDATION WEEK 1, 30.07.2019 So today we had a class with Akash Sir on Drawing Foundation. Post introduction Sir showed few of his works and they were AMAZING! The amount of time he had put in for those sketches was unbelievable. He showed us presentation and it showcased a lot of his college work which again were too inspiring. We then started by simply drawing straight lines, circles and then ellipses. He also showed us the right way to sketch few forms and shapes in the right manner. Sir showed us a demo on designing and sketching a helmet in merely 5 minutes. He helped us understand the time division and importance of thumbnails and basic rough sketches. We were then assigned 25 minutes to sketch whatever we felt like, and the first thing that strikes my mind is my vegetable vendor(dont ask me why?) following below is the sketch I drew in the 25 minutes that were assigned, We discussed further how everyone's drawing had a basic sketch to it and sir gave another...

ANI 23AUG W4

So today’s 3D Animation class was FUN! Every class we do gesture drawing where one person poses in front of the class and the rest quickly draws the gesture. Today we did the same exercise in a different way, we played side ball! Whenever sir saw a nice unique pose being showcased, sir asked that person to freeze for ten to fifteen seconds and we quickly used to sketch, by this we learned to draw more dynamic, instant, realistic and quirky pose gestures. Later we did stop motion of a bouncing ball(coin) where I learned a lot about the curve arcs and how gravity affects the arc and placement of the coin. Post bouncing coin I went through the book called Animator’s  survival kit by Richard Williams. I ordered it instantly as this book has got everything, from basics of animation to advance level.We later used our light boxes to draw the bouncing ball cell animation using pose to pose. ANI 17Sept MAKE UP WEEK

So today we had a make up class for animation where we continued with the previous exercise of heavy and light ball. Before that we did contour and gesture drawings, saw few short films and few of Sir’s work. In my animation for heavy and light ball, I have added an interaction between those two balls where when the light ball hits the wall on which the heavy ball is, the heavy balls hits the light ball from above and bounces back to the ground. I tried many ways but I haven’t got the effect that I want yet, few scenes look very unnatural and I am going to try again, this time I’m going to keep it simple and get the fundamentals right first.
